An Ethical Approach to Horse Riding Holidays

Respecting local customs

Many of the counties in which we operate have very different customs to those you will be familiar with. You should always respect local religions, beliefs and customs. Your guide will make you aware of the important customs to keep in mind at the beginning of your trip. A few important ones include:

  • Ensure that you cover up appropriately when entering holy places.
  • Avoid public displays of intimacy.
  • Respect the privacy of local people. Always ask permission or advice before entering someone’s house or their place of work.
  • It is always worthwhile to learn some basic words and phrases in the local language. Your effort will always be enthusiastically welcomed.
  • Nearly everyone wants to come back with some memorable snaps. You should always ask permission before taking photographs of people, holy places or rituals.

Observing local laws
As part of our booking conditions you are expected to respect and obey the law of the country or countries in which you are travelling.

Drugs or firearms are not allowed on any of our tours.

Alcohol may not permitted on some of our tours, as specified by your pre-departure information or your tour leader.
Helping the local economy

Bringing tourists into foreign destinations can have a significant impact on these locations. This offers us a great opportunity, and responsibility, to ensure that the money we, and our clients, spend, goes to those who can most benefit from it. To ensure this we:

  • Use local operators as much as possible in the day-to-day running of our holidays.
  • Encourage our clients to use the services of local people during their holiday (e.g. laundry, restaurants, local shops etc).
  • Try to advise on better alternatives to giving money to beggars. Often there are community projects that will better help the local community.
  • Understand the important place that bargaining holds in local cultures and economies.
  • Respect the fact that tipping (and commission) is an integral part of a local economy and advise our clients accordingly.
  • Encourage buying as much as possible from local vendors and markets.

Preserving natural resources
Fishing holidays, by there very nature, bring you into close contact with the natural environment. We try to leave this environment and its ecology in the same state that we found it, if not better. We encourage this by:

  • Using as little water as possible, especially where it is in short supply.
  • Using as little firewood as possible, especially where it is in short supply.
  • Responsibly disposing of all waste.
  • Using only existing trails when going to and from riding spots.

Projects and charities we support
We believe in giving something back to the countries and communities that we visit. Therefore we support a range of local charities and projects.
